Check out this special tutorial for parents new to the sport!
Joining NCFDP gives you the privilege of fencing on Tuesday and/or Thursday nights during the academic year (and many summer weeks too) in Fetzer Gym on the campus of the University of North Carolina. Group lessons are available at three fencing levels for all weapons. New fencers are added in May, June, September, or January. You can also sign up for individual lessons with NCFDP staff, and free-fence with others in attendance. When you come to club, you can sign up for lessons and get specific information. You are encouraged to drop in and observe before beginning.
NCFDP staff provide beginning fencers with instruction in foil, and intermediate and advanced fencers with instruction in any of the three traditional weapons: foil, epee, and sabre. Students advance through 3 levels of instruction in groups, take private lessons if desired, and have the opportunity to free-fence with other youth, collegiate, and adult fencers present during the club hours.
Fencing Club is held for all 3 weapons (foil, epee, and saber) at Fetzer Gym room #07 on the campus of the University of North Carolina on Tuesday and Thursday nights starting at 7:00 p.m. Club runs from 7 pm to 10 pm during the Fall and Spring semesters and 7 – 9 pm during exams and summer session. The club is closed from the end of summer session II until the beginning of the Fall semester (typically the first three weeks of August). You may free fence, take beginning or intermediate group lessons, or take intermediate or advanced private lessons. Want to know how to drive there?
If you want to register for beginning or intermediate group lessons for the next session, please email Coach Ron Miller. Please indicate if you are a youth or adult fencer, if you have any fencing experience or are new to fencing, and if you prefer Tuesday or Thursday evening or both.
In addition, Coach Ron Miller runs day camps for youth in the summer. This summer, NCFDP will offer several week-long afternoon camps and hopefully one week-long,residential camp for youth fencers with some previous experience. Details about all these camps coming soon!

Intermediate student coming on Tuesday for group lessons and coming on Thursdays for a private lesson and free-fencing: $50 membership per month + $50 group lesson per month + $40 – $50 for private lessons + $20 card fee = $160 – $170 per month total (variation is due to change in either 4 or 5 private lessons). The fall semester would cost approximately $490, and the spring semester would cost approximately $690.
Advanced student coming two nights per week for private lessons (2 per week) and free-fencing: $50 membership per month + $40 – $50 for private lessons + $20 card fee = $150 to $170 per month total (variation is due to either 8 or 10 private lessons).
